Who We Are
Just before my thirteenth birthday in 2018 we went to dine out in san Francisco. When we were walking back my mom saw a mobile shower standing next to the road. Our family had a brief discussion on how nice it is for homeless people to have the facility to shower. Even though it was a brief discussion but it stayed with me. My dad travels a lot for his work and there are always extra toiletry bags around the house. My mom was doing a cleanup and throwing away some toiletries and it stuck to me why not give them to the homeless people. So on our next trip to San Francisco, I took those few toiletry bags with me and gave it to the few homeless people on jones street. Their surprised and happy response really made my day and pushed me to do more. So I asked my dad to bring all the unused toiletries back from his travels. I also emailed some of his colleagues who travel with him to bring the unused toiletries that I can donate to the homeless people. After a short period of time, I had collected a whole box of brand new toiletries that include personalized items such as Socks, shampoos, handwash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. In Summer 2019 distributed one box to the homeless people on the streets of San Francisco. As I was traveling to Pakistan I took one box there and distributed it to kids of slums in Pakistan. They were living a life below the poverty level and some of them told me that this is the first time they got a personal toothbrush. This not only shocked me but also motivated me to help these kids more. I came back and I kept on collecting toiletries from my dad and his colleagues and from some family friends but suddenly the pandemic hit and all travel ceased. So the stuff I have collected could not be donated all the way to San Francisco I went to Love a child and donated all the toiletries I had donated thus far. The people at love a child said after the pandemic people stopped donating and were in need of new clothes and more. I kept asking people to donate but it was getting really hard to collect toiletries. My sister during the early days of the pandemic and then it hit me if that we both start knitting something I can help the charity and homeless with the money I will collect. So I asked my sister to teach me how to croquet. I found it really hard to work with the needles so I learned how to croquet with my fingers. I used some of my savings to buy chunky yarn and made some baby blankets with the finger croquet and donated it to Building futures. I also wanted to help the people working in this local charity so I made 50 face shields to use while distributing the baby blankets and whatever toiletries I had. Now I was really running low on my savings to buy material for making more face shiels and baby blankets. Around that time my family was moving houses and I got the opportunity to sell a couple of my childhood bikes that had gotten small. That gave me enough cash to make 150 more face shields and 10 baby blankets to donate at Tri-valley haven in November 2020. I did two donation drives a month apart that drained me out of cash but my motivation and excitement were really at the peak. So I decided to start making infinity loop scarfs with my skill and start selling them on Etsy. So I can raise money to do charity work to help the communities around the bay area. Please help me help them by buying these scarves. They come in silver-gray, red, black. white, light pink, and aqua blue for the low price of 20 dollars. All the money I raise will go to help not just people in the bay area but Pakistan as well.
